PrattMWP
Summer
Workshops
in Clay

Plan to attend an informative and relaxing workshop this summer on the beautiful Upstate New York campus of Pratt Institute. Experience the unique possibilities and excitement of firing the salt and/or the anagama kilns at PrattMWP. Both workshops will focus on throwing strong functional forms and will explore the atmospheric firing effects on surface and color. Discussion will include aesthetic approaches, design decisions and firing techniques.

Both workshops will include slide presentations, critiques and a field trip to the Everson Museum in Syracuse. A light breakfast of fruit, pastry and a beverage will be provided each day. Clay will be provided at additional cost. Dormitory-style accommodations are available (please call for rates).

Professor Bryan McGrath has been head of the PrattMWP ceramics program for more than 20 years. He has more than 30 years college and community teaching experience and has led numerous workshops in throwing and kiln building in the US and abroad. Professor McGrath works are included in public and private collections in the U.S., Japan and Australia.

The PrattMWP ceramic studio is one of the best small pottery shops in the country. Housed in a Victorian-era carriage house designed by Richard Morris Hunt, the studio is intimate, yet comfortable, with ample room for exploring all facets of the ceramic arts. A recently completed kiln shed houses the salt and anagama kilns. The beautifully maintained campus provides a perfect setting for a productive stay.
